Safaera (feat. Jowell & Randy, Ñengo Flow)
An encyclopedic masterpiece of early 2000s Puerto Rican "marquesina" party culture. It features massive beat switches and pays homage to the underground roots of the genre.
La historia detrás de la canción
"Safaera" translates roughly to "unleashed behavior" or "acting wild" in Puerto Rican slang. Structurally, it is one of the most complex reggaeton songs ever produced. Instead of a traditional verse-chorus structure, producer Tainy and DJ Orma stitched together at least 8 distinct beat switches, heavily sampling classics like Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" and Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved".
By featuring reggaeton veterans Jowell & Randy and Ñengo Flow, Bad Bunny created a time capsule meant to replicate the experience of an underground "perreo" mixtape from a Puerto Rican garage party in the early 2000s. It became a cultural phenomenon on TikTok during the 2020 lockdowns.

[Intro: Bad Bunny]
Diablo, qué safaera'
Tú tiene' un culo cabrón
Cualquier cosa que te pongas te rompe la tela
La batidora, la batidora, la batidora...
[Beat Switch 1: Jowell]
Mami, ¿qué tú quiere'? Aquí llegó tu tiburón
Yo quiero perrearte y fumarme un blunt
Ver lo que esconde ese pantalón
Yo quiero perrearte y perrearte y perrearte...
[Beat Switch 2: Ñengo Flow & Bad Bunny]
Hoy se bebe, hoy se gasta
Hoy se fuma como un rasta
Si Dios lo permite
Que si mi abuela me viera, mami, me mata
Traducción al inglés
Damn, what a wild vibe
You have an incredible body
Whatever you wear, you tear the fabric
The blender, the blender, the blender... (dance move)
Mommy, what do you want? Your shark has arrived
I want to grind with you and smoke a blunt
See what you're hiding in those pants
I want to grind with you and grind and grind...
Today we drink, today we spend
Today we smoke like a Rasta
God willing
If my grandma saw me, mommy, she'd kill me
